Bible Prophecy 2026: The Signs Jesus Named Are Escalating Together — Here’s the Evidence
Wars, earthquakes, famine, pestilence, and signs in the heavens — tracked against the Olivet Discourse, with sources you can check.
Something changed, and most of us felt it before we could explain it.
Ask anyone who was paying attention around March of 2020. They’ll tell you the same thing in different words — that the world tilted a few degrees and never quite tilted back. We keep waiting for “normal” to return like a bus that’s just running late. It isn’t late. It isn’t coming. And if you’ve had the quiet, nagging sense that the headlines aren’t just bad but patterned — that they’re all pulling in the same direction at the same time — I want to sit with that instinct for a moment, because I think it’s worth taking seriously.
Here’s the question this page exists to answer, and I’ll keep coming back to it:
is this just a rough stretch of history, the kind every generation gets? Or is it the specific thing Jesus told us to watch for? I’m not going to hand you a conclusion. I’m going to lay the evidence on the workbench — sourced, checkable, no baloney — and we’ll look at it together.
Jesus put it plainly:
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” — Matthew 24:6–8
Notice what He said right in the middle of it: see that ye be not troubled. That’s the posture. Watchful, not rattled. So let’s watch.
Wars and Rumours of Wars
Start with the one Jesus listed first. According to ACLED — the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data project, which counts these things for a living — the trailing twelve months saw more than 185,000 political-violence events and over 240,000 conflict-related deaths worldwide. The International Committee of the Red Cross puts the number of active armed conflicts north of 130, roughly double what it was fifteen years ago.
Double. In fifteen years. Sit with that number for a moment.
And it isn’t only nation against nation. Jesus used two different phrases — “nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.” The word behind “nation” there is ethnos. Peoples against peoples. It’s the external wars, yes, but it’s also the fracturing inside borders — the sense that the fabric is tearing along seams we didn’t know were seams.
“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars… for nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” — Matthew 24:6–7
Is this normal? Conflict monitors describe the current period as the most violent since the Second World War. That’s not a prophecy site talking. That’s the people with the spreadsheets.

The Groaning Earth
Jesus said “earthquakes, in divers places.” Paul used a bigger image — the whole creation “groaneth.”
The earth has been loud lately. A single recent example: a magnitude-7.2 foreshock followed by a 7.5 mainshock struck northern Venezuela near Caracas, confirmed by the USGS and reported worldwide, with dozens killed. That’s one event among many logged every month.
Now, I promised you honesty, so here’s the honest part. When someone tells you earthquakes are increasing, the fair pushback is: we simply have more sensors than we used to. We detect quakes now that we’d have slept through a century ago. That’s a real point, and I’m not going to pretend it away. So the careful way to watch this sign is to keep your eye on the major quakes and the human toll, not the raw tally.
“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.” — Romans 8:22
Paul’s word there is a birth word — the groan of labor, not the groan of an ending. Hold onto that image. We’ll need it later.

Famines and Food Scarcity
Watch how the last sign hands off to this one — because the experts made the connection for us.
The FAO and the World Food Programme report that around 266 million people now face acute food insecurity across 13 “hunger hotspots,” even as humanitarian funding has fallen 59% since 2022. In Sudan alone, an estimated 19.5 million people — 41% of the population — reached crisis-level hunger or worse. And here’s the connective tissue: the FAO–WFP report names “a forecast El Niño event” as one of the drivers, expected to bring drought and flooding to countries already on the edge. The weather sign and the famine sign aren’t two separate stories. The agencies are telling us they’re one.
“The warnings in this report cannot be ignored. Conflict, shocks, and disasters are forcing families to make impossible decisions about who gets to eat and who goes to bed hungry.” — Carl Skau, WFP Acting Executive Director
Jesus put famine right there in the same sentence as the wars and the quakes:
“and there shall be famines” — Matthew 24:7
Pestilence and Disease
Jesus said “pestilences” — an old word for the diseases that sweep through a population.
A quick definition before we go, because this one gets technical: a zoonotic disease is one that jumps from animals to people. That’s the category health officials are watching most nervously right now. The FAO–WFP report notes a resurgence of Ebola in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Separately, the H5N1 bird-flu virus has spread into mammals, including U.S. dairy cattle, with a growing number of human cases — though, in fairness, health agencies still rate the current risk to the general public as low. I’ll say that part plainly because it’s true, and because fear is not the currency we deal in here.
“And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.” — Luke 21:11
We all lived through what a pestilence does to a world. We don’t need to be told twice. The thing to watch isn’t any single outbreak — it’s the cadence.
Signs in the Heavens
Luke adds a category Matthew doesn’t spell out: “fearful sights and great signs… from heaven.”
The sun has been busy. We’re in the high-activity stretch of Solar Cycle 25, whose maximum landed in the 2024–2025 window. NOAA documents the May 2024 “Gannon” storm as the most intense geomagnetic event in two decades — strong enough to push auroras far south of where they belong and to jostle satellites in their orbits.
Is this normal? Solar cycles are as regular as clockwork, roughly every eleven years, so a busy sun is not itself a wonder. What Scripture points us to is the noticing — the sense of looking up and seeing the heavens do things that make the evening news.
“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars” — Luke 21:25

Israel and Jerusalem
If there’s a clock on the wall of Bible prophecy 2026, this is it.
Start with the fact no one can wave away: after roughly 1,878 years scattered among the nations, Israel became a nation again in a single day — May 14, 1948. Jews returned from more than a hundred countries, and a dead language came back to life. Nothing like it has happened before or since. That one isn’t interpretation. It’s history you can look up.
Now, a word of restraint. You’ll hear a great deal these days about preparations for a Third Temple — vessels, garments, even red heifers. I’d file all of that under watch, but hold loosely. Those reports are not on the same footing as a USGS reading or a NOAA forecast, and the Temple Mount remains under arrangements that make any construction a distant, complicated question. I’m not going to build a case on a foundation I can’t inspect.
“and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.” — Luke 21:24
And the fig-tree parable, where Jesus tied the generation that sees these things to the nearness of what follows:
“So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.” — Matthew 24:33

This Is Not Isolated

What We Do With This
If you’ve read this far and something in your chest has tightened a little — good. That’s not a malfunction. That’s the appropriate response to real information, and I’d rather you feel it honestly than pretend you don’t.
But notice where the tightening points you. Not toward fear. Fear is a lousy landlord; don’t sign a lease with it. The signs were never given to frighten the church — they were given so we’d recognize the season and lift our heads. To be a watchful people is simply this: to keep our eyes open, our hands busy with good work, and our hearts unhurried, because we know who holds the next chapter.
And on the matter everyone secretly wants pinned down — when — I’ll tell you what Jesus told us, and no more:
“But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” — Matthew 24:36
No man knows the day. I don’t, the fellow with the charts doesn’t, and anyone who hands you a date is selling something. What we’re given is not a countdown clock — it’s a set of signs, and the invitation to be found watching. That’s enough. That’s plenty.
The One Thing to Carry
If you remember nothing else from this page, remember this: the signs Jesus named are not arriving one at a time — they’re converging, and convergence is exactly what He told us to watch for.
The same book that’s been right about the past is the book describing the present. Fulfilled prophecy isn’t a party trick; it’s the proof that the One who wrote it can be trusted with what’s still ahead — including His promise to His own. That’s the whole hope, and it’s a bright one.
So keep your eyes open and your peace intact. Both. At the same time. That’s the watchman’s posture, and there’s room for you on the wall.
